“Mindful parenting is hard work. It means knowing ourselves inwardly, and working at the interface where our inner lives meet the lives of our children.” –Everyday Blessings: The inner work of mindful parenting by Myla and Jon Kabat-Zinn
What is conscious parenting? It is the development of our own personal growth alongside of that of our children, engaging one another in an intricate dance that is our parent-child relationship. How we choose to live our lives and interact with those around us, including our children, shapes the quality of our lives and theirs as well. When we invest ourselves in our own personal growth, we naturally encourage our children to do the same and all can benefit from finding a balance between our physical, emotional and spiritual needs. By paying attention to our needs, we also practice the skills necessary to recognizing our children’s needs and then making the necessary changes that create a harmonious family environment for everyone. It is often precarious, learning through trial-and-error how to meet everyone’s needs fairly but the outcome is always glorious and infinitely worth it.
